Words I

Tribe Recap of January 7, 2018 | Ephesians 6, Proverbs 18, Matthew 18, Luke 4

Do you believe that what you say to someone is eternal? That’s what it says in Matthew 18, mind blowing!  Do you believe your words give life?  What about death? Read Proverbs 18:21

In Ephesians chapter 6 the scriptures tell us to take up the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  The ‘word’ in this case is talking about the spoken, uttered, living expression of God’s heart (see Hebrews 4:12).  Again...staggering! We are supposed to take this up!

If there is a single thing our spiritual enemy does not want us to realize it’s the power of our words.  Look in Luke chapter 4 how the devil attacks Jesus with his words and how Jesus wards him off with his own words – both quoting scripture.  A few verses later Jesus is declaring his mission to the Jews in words and few verses after that the Jews are offended at his words and try to kill him.   A few verses after Jesus heals people oppressed by demons with words and a few verses onward Jesus declares that his purpose on earth is to ‘preach the kingdom.’ Words are power.  Words are weapons. Words are spirit.

Jesus is taking up the Sword of the Spirit.  He is deliberately using the right-now-alive-moving-relevant-applicable-eternal-life giving spoken word of God.  Sometimes he speaks from Scripture and sometimes he speaks straight from what the Spirit is showing him.  The result?  People are set free from oppression and the Kingdom of Life is released to go to work.

When you use your words, and say what God is saying, you cut bonds like a sword and release the Spirit of the Living Life-giving God!  You have astounding authority when you use your words!!  With a word you can break dark realities in yourself and others and release life-giving ones.  What you say is eternal, able to give life, and takes on a life of its own.  Words are spirit, and spirit is alive!!

So what should we do with our words?

Let’s start inside us.  What kinds of words are we meditating on in our minds?  Are we taking destructive words captive and booting them out (2 Cor 10:5)?  Are we dwelling on life-giving words, the truth that God has spoken over our lives?  Start in your mind.  After you have read the truth that God loves you, that you are his son or daughter, that you have a hope and a future, that you will inherit the Kingdom, that God – your friend, will never leave you, that there is always reason to hope - think the truth deliberately and on purpose!  Take up the Sword of the Spirit over your mind.  Read it, think it, speak it.  Speak the words of God over yourself!  Once you are free and alive you can make others like you.  Life begets life.

Spend some time thinking this week about what God is saying about you right now.  What is God’s right-now word over your year and your life?  He is always talking; his frequency is all around you!  Tune in and meditate on the words of hope God is speaking directly to you.  Write it down.

God words are words of hope, increase, favor, dreams, visions, friendship, revelation, assignment, peace, destiny, and the warmth-of-life-in-motion - and they are able to cut off oppression, live eternally, and set you running towards the amazing future God has set aside for you.  Begin in the depths of your heart - take up the Sword of the Spirit and release the Kingdom of Heaven, that you, your family, your friends, and the lost at the ends of the earth might live a free man in an eternal Kingdom.
